Black seed oil
Black seed oil
Plant oil — the nourishing care that helps protect, soften and preserve the suppleness of the skin
Common name: Black seed oil
INCI name: Nigella Sativa Seed Oil
Where it comes from
Black seed oil is of plant origin. It is obtained from the seeds of black cumin (Nigella sativa), a plant long cultivated in various regions of the world, notably around the Mediterranean basin, in the Middle East and in Asia.
The seeds are generally pressed to extract an oil naturally rich in fatty acids, phytosterols and plant compounds, including thymoquinone, known for its antioxidant value.

How does it work on the skin?
The skin has a protective barrier that helps it retain its water and protect itself from external elements such as dust, pollution, wind or temperature changes.
When this barrier is weakened, the skin can become drier, rougher, uncomfortable, or more readily show certain blemishes.
Black seed oil provides lipids that complete the protective film present at the skin's surface. It thus helps limit the feeling of dryness and contributes to softer, more supple skin.
It also contains various plant compounds with antioxidant properties. They can be pictured as small protectors that help the skin better cope with the oxidative stress caused by certain environmental aggressors.
Thanks to this combination of nourishment, protection and antioxidant action, the skin can gradually regain a feeling of comfort and a softer, more supple, better balanced appearance.
In care designed for blemish-prone skin, black seed oil is also valued for its purifying dimension, which complements the other actives in the formula.
Which skin types?
Black seed oil is particularly suited to:- Blemish-prone skin : it brings a purifying, nourishing dimension to care designed for skin showing irregularities.
- Oily skin : it can be used in formulas aimed at caring for skin that produces a lot of sebum, while preserving its comfort.
- Combination skin : it can support care for areas that show both shine and feelings of dryness.
- Dry skin : its fatty acids help nourish and soften the skin in order to reduce the feeling of dryness.
- Dehydrated skin : by bringing lipids to the skin's surface, it helps preserve the comfort and suppleness of the skin.
- Weakened skin : it helps maintain the skin's protective barrier and preserve a feeling of comfort.
- Dull skin : its antioxidant compounds contribute to overall care for skin exposed to external aggressors.
- Normal skin : it can also be used in nourishing, protective care to maintain the softness and suppleness of the skin.
Depending on the formulation, it can be used in face and body care, notably in products designed for blemish-prone or dry skin, or skin in need of nourishment.
