Collagen

Collagen

Structural protein — the active that helps preserve the firmness, suppleness and smooth appearance of the skin

Common name: Collagen

INCI name: Hydrolyzed Collagen

Where it comes from

Collagen is a protein of biological origin. In cosmetic products, it can come from different sources, notably animal or marine, depending on the manufacturing process and the specifications of the product.

When hydrolysed, collagen is broken down into smaller fragments called peptides. This form is easier to use in cosmetic formulations and mainly allows its hydrating and protective properties to be enjoyed at the skin's surface.

How does it work on the skin?

The skin can be compared to a structure that must stay strong yet supple enough to follow the movements of the face and body. Collagen is naturally one of the elements involved in that structure.

Over time, the quantity and quality of the collagen naturally produced by the skin can decrease. The skin can then gradually look less firm, less plump, thinner or more marked.

In a cosmetic product, hydrolysed collagen acts mainly at the surface of the skin. Its molecules and peptides can help retain water and form a light protective film on the skin's surface.

Picture a thin film that helps the skin keep its comfort and suppleness. This action helps give a skin feel that is softer, smoother and better hydrated.

Cosmetic collagen does not replace the collagen naturally present in the deeper tissues of the skin. Its value in topical application rests above all on its hydrating, film-forming and conditioning action, which improves the appearance and the feel of the skin.

Used regularly in a suitable formulation, it can thus contribute to skin that looks more supple, smoother, more comfortable and visibly better cared for.

Which skin types?

Collagen is particularly suited to:

  • Mature skin : helps maintain a more supple, smooth and comfortable appearance when the skin shows more visible signs of time.
  • Skin lacking firmness : helps improve the overall appearance of skin that looks less toned or less plump.
  • Dry skin : its film-forming action helps maintain comfort and limit the feeling of dry skin.
  • Dehydrated skin : helps retain water at the skin's surface and thereby contributes to a more supple skin feel.
  • Rough skin : helps improve the feel and appearance of the skin, leaving it softer and smoother.
  • Marked skin : supports care for skin showing visible signs of time and small irregularities in texture.
  • Dull, tired skin : better hydrated skin can look fresher, more supple and more radiant.
  • Normal skin : can be used in care aimed at maintaining good hydration and a smooth, comfortable appearance.

It can be used in care products for the face and the body, notably in hydrating, firming, anti-ageing formulas or those meant to improve the softness and suppleness of the skin.

At CHEM BIODERM

We value collagen for its usefulness in care that seeks, at once, hydration, comfort, softness and an improvement in the skin's appearance.

At CHEM BIODERM, it naturally fits into a cosmetic approach aimed at preserving skin that is supple, smooth and comfortable, while supporting the needs of skin showing visible signs of dryness, loss of suppleness or maturity.

Its value is therefore not limited to the idea of “firming”: it also brings a genuine dimension of care, hydration and skin comfort.
